The Reasons Why You Should Trim Your Hair Regularly

The Reasons Why You Should Trim Your Hair Regularly

Let's not beat around the bush. By now you know I LOVE HAIR and I help people like you that want to have healthy natural hair. My main goal is to educate you and help you make all the right decisions when it comes to rocking the styles that make you feel beautiful inside and out.

Today, I will be sharing 3 reasons why you should trim your hair frequently. More importantly, today I will be helping you to make a solid decision of whether you want to “just have hair" or have "HEALTHY hair" that retains length.

The thing is, it’s hard for us to trim our hair because we feel like it takes so damn long to get the length we want.

I know of so many people who just aren’t interested in trimming their hair on a regular basis or don’t have a regular trimming regimen at all, but they want to have healthy crowns. They never get anywhere because they didn’t bother putting in the effort or they gave up along the way.

I don’t think many people understand that in order to achieve healthy crowns, you have to have the "RIGHT REASONS and MOTIVATIONS" so that your desire to have healthy hair stands the test of time.

The process of having the healthiest hair you’ve ever had takes time and patience.

After reading dozens of books and watching tons of social media influencers, and putting into practice what I learned, I discovered the 3 main reasons why you have to trim your hair regularly to have healthy tresses.

1. First and foremost, trimming your hair DOES NOT MAKE IT GROW FASTER! Trimming your hair prevents your hair from breaking off.

2. Split ends travel up the strands and cause your strands to break. So, while it may look like you have long hair, those split ends just travel up and up until it breaks. Trimming your ends stops this from happening. There really isn’t any way to repair split ends. The best thing you can do is just cut them off before they become an unmanageable mess.

3. Fairy knots/Single-strand knots are strands of hair that wrap themselves around each other and become tiny knots at the end of your strands. Kinky, coily, curly girls can’t get away from this problem. If you run your fingers down to the end of your strands, you can feel the little knots. If you don’t manage them, the knots become bigger and bigger as they grab onto other strands. The best way to get rid of these annoying knots is to trim them out.

The bottom line is…trimming your ends is how you retain length. So you see, trimming doesn’t make your hair grow; it helps you to retain length.

When Should You Trim Your Ends? ✂️

The style you wear will determine how often you should trim it.

  • If you have healthy hair, you should trim your crowns 3 - 4 times a year.
  • Kinky, curly, coily crowns should be trimmed at least every 8 weeks since the oils don't travel to your ends as easily and cause them to dry out faster.
  • If you wear protective low-manipulation styles you should trim your hair every 12 weeks.
  • If you dye your hair, you should trim it at the time you dye it.
  • Thin hair should be trimmed more often to keep the ends healthy. Every 5 - 6 weeks is best.

There are ways to prevent split ends and fairy knots; we’ll blog about that subject on another day.

Here’s what you have to do NOW!

Bite the bullet and just trim it. ✂️
